Hartsdale's Whyte, Navy Veteran, Dies at 88

HARTSDALE, N.Y. - Donald Peter Whyte of Hartsdale died Feb. 8. He was 88. 

He was born July 24, 1923 in Bronx, N.Y. to the late Frederice and Elizabeth Whyte. A Navy veteran, he served during World War II. Whyte worked in the HVAC industry and as a hard lines buyer for J.C. Penney and J.A. Sexauer. Whyte was also a founding member of the Refrigeration Services Engineer Society and longtime secretary for the Metro N.Y. chapter.

A motorcycle enthusiast, he was a life member of the American Motorcyclist Association and secretary and treasurer for Crotona Motorcycle Club. Whyte was a life member of the NRA and Elmsford Gun Club.

He is survived by his wife Viola Whyte, his son Bruce Whyte, his daughter Nancy (Frank) Re and a grandson.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at Ballard-Durand Funeral Home in White Plains. A funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at The White Plains Presbyterian Church, followed by interment at St. Raymond's Cemetery in the Bronx.
