ELMSFORD, N.Y. - Tyler C. Rush, of Elmsford, died tragically in a motorcycle accident March 22. He was 24.
Rush joined Live Oak Engine Company at the age of 18, earning Firefighter of the Year three times and a Life Saving Award. He also served as a lieutenant and an EMT.
Born July 5, 1987 in White Plains, he was the oldest son of Edward and Lauren Murphy Rush. He graduated from Archbishop Stepinac High School and from SUNY Rockland Community College with an associate's degree in automotive technology.
While still attending RCC, Rush began working for the Village of Elmsford Water Department as summer help. Always mechanically inclined, he thrived in this environment and was asked to stay on when the summer ended. During his last year of school, Tyler worked full-time, went to classes and played on Rockland's championship baseball team.
After graduation, Rush continued working for the department. In addition, he had his CDL and did heavy towing for Autobahn. Following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, Rush was very dedicated to the fire service.
Rush is survived by his parents; his siblings, Luke, Francesca and Connor; and his extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his four grandparents.
There will be a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Elmsford. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Hawthorne Funeral Home.
