ELMSFORD, N.Y. James I. Hovanec, a longtime Elmsford resident, died on March 29. He was 82.
Hovanec worked as a firefighter for the City of White Plains for more than 30 years before he retired.
He was born July 22, 1929 in Mt. Vernon, NY to Irvin and Ann Hovanec. Educated in Mt. Vernon, Hovanec graduated from Edison Vocational and Technical High School. Locally, he was a parishioner of Our Lady Mt. Carmel Church in Elmsford since 1960.
Hovanec was predeceased by his wife Marion (Marcsisin) Hovanec. He is survived by his daughters Patricia Larson and Jeanette van-Dorp, his son Robert James Hovanec, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 9 p.m. on Monday at the Elmsford Chapel of Ballard-Durand Funeral Home. The funeral mass will take place at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Colon Cancer Coalition.
