The new store, which will be built on a five-acre lot at 2010 Maple Hill St. in Yorktown, will be the future home of Atlantic Appliance, a business that has been serving the area since 1975, Yorktown town officials announced on Friday, Nov. 22.
The 25,720-square-foot, two-story building will include retail, office, and warehouse space and incorporate numerous environmental protections, according to Yorktown officials.
Atlantic Appliance, a cornerstone in the Northern Westchester business community, currently operates out of 50 Triangle Ctr. in Yorktown. Plans for its new locale were approved by the Yorktown Planning Board in 2020, but environmental reviews and permitting delayed the start of construction, according to owner Joey Vukaj.
"You’re doing the right thing. You’ve been in Yorktown for quite a while. We thank you and your family for choosing to develop your business more here, and we wish you nothing but success,” said Yorktown Supervisor Ed Lachterman during the groundbreaking ceremony.
Vukaj, who started working at Atlantic Appliance in 1993 and purchased the business in 2018 from its former owner, emphasized his commitment to the area.
“I have five daughters, so I wanted to be established in Yorktown. We have another store in Mount Kisco, but Yorktown is the home of Atlantic Appliance, and I never considered going anywhere else,” Vukaj said.
The groundbreaking also prompted excitement from members of the Yorktown Town Board.
“We are so excited that you’re bringing such a beautiful project to this town and that you’ve picked the Town of Yorktown to be your home,” said Councilman Sergio Esposito.
“I like to see that Atlantic Appliance is staying in Yorktown,” added Councilman Patrick Murphy, who continued, “It’s the holiday season, so if anybody needs appliances for the holidays, you know where to go.”
The groundbreaking comes as Northern Westchester celebrates other business openings. Earlier in November, a T.J. Maxx opened at the Yorktown Green Shopping Center, the first of four businesses to replace the former Kmart.
Additionally, in June, Chipotle opened its first New York restaurant featuring a new design concept at 3180 Crompond Rd.
