Gyro Gyro opened five weeks ago at 2 North Central Ave. in Hartsdale. The restaurant is run by Yianni Papageorgiou, a native of Greece who moved to America in 2005 and currently lives in Astoria, along with his partner, Elias Hios.
"I came here on vacation and never left," Papageorgiou said.
Papageorgiou said he and Hios were driving around Central Avenue and fell in love with the area.
"We saw a lot of potential for a Greek restaurant here," Papageorgiou said.
A gyro is a sandwich in a pita bread, with a choice of chicken, pork, lamb, or beef topped with tomatoes, onions, tzatziki, a Greek yogurt, and fries.
"We make everything in-house," Papageorgiou, who previously ran a diner, said. "Everything is fresh cut.
Papageorgiou, who loves the pork gyro and admits to having two gyros a day, said he feels they are filling the void in the community.
"Hopefully we're providing everyone with a little Greek flavor," Papageorgiou said. "Our customers love it. We've been seeing the same people coming back. It's very rewarding to see repeat customers."
The location allows for a lot of traffic, and to accommodate people who might have difficulty finding a spot, Gyro Gyro offers curbside delivery.
"Our goal is to make everyone happy with good service and good food," Papageorgiou said. "Hospitality is in our DNA."
