Effie Gordon was a resident of Rye City and the first female president of Port Chester /Rye NAACP.  In addition to taking the helm of the NAACP branch, and eventually the New York State Conference, she was also an integral part of the creation of Carver Center, the historically black community center celebrating its 70th anniversary this year.

Porter is owner and founder of Honor You, a personal image agency for full-figured woman. Her mission is to help women honor their size, their shape and themselves by teaching them that all sizes are "not" created equal.  Porter was awarded the LEAP Award by the Women’s Enterprise Development Center at the organization’s annual luncheon on June 12 and has also been featured in Black Enterprise Magazine, Marie Claire, Wag and YAHOO! to name a few.

The event will also include a musical performance by Port Chester High School senior Sarah Dapaah, who was nominated for a Metropolitan High School Theater Award for Outstanding Vocal Performance in the school’s Spring Musical production of “Hairspray.”  Tickets for the event are $25 per person. For reservations call Doris Reavis at 914-937-6613 or send an email to pcrnaacp@gmail.com. Seating is limited.
