‘A Tipping Point’: Mohawk Hudson Humane Society Desperately Seeks Adopters Amid Shelter Crisis
An animal shelter in the region is blaming a “perfect storm” of problems for the sheltering crisis it now finds itself in. In Albany County, the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society (MHHS) in Menands has reached “a tipping point” and can no longer accept strays from the public, the organization announced on Monday, Aug. 14. “As a shelter that prides itself as being a resource for our community, this breaks our heart, but we know that we need to care for those within our walls first,” the humane society said on Facebook. New York residents are reluctant to return to several indoor activities, including indoor dining and going to the gym, according to a brand-new poll. The Siena College Research Institute statewide poll was conducted Thursday, Aug. 20 through Thursday, Aug. 27 by random telephone calls to 343 adults via landline and cell phones and 402 responses drawn from a proprietary panel of New Yorkers. Puppy mills may soon be a thing of the past in New York. New York lawmakers are taking steps to introduce a new bill that would ban the sale of animals at puppy mills. The legislation would include dogs, cats and bunnies from an unregulated breeding facility. The sale of those animals would then be banned at pet stores.
