Woman Stalks Local Victim For Months, Files False Child Abuse Claims, Police Say
A woman from the region is accused of stalking a person for months, stealing their identity, and wrongly accusing them of child abuse.
Rensselaer County resident Nacirema Harris, age 28, of Troy, was arraigned on more than a dozen charges, including burglary and identity theft, in Albany County Court on Friday, March 8.
New York State Police said troopers began investigating the case in January 2024. After determining that Harris had followed the victim in both Troy and Albany, they obtained a warrant to search her Troy residence.

Trio Nabbed For Hudson Valley Home Burglaries, Police Say
Three men were apprehended by police in the Hudson Valley shortly after allegedly committing home burglaries.
The incident occurred in Orange County around 7:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 2, on Continental Drive in New Windsor.
The men were identified as Queens residents Jamez Torres Tinoco, age 41; Diego Hernandez-Corba, age 29, and Julian Cortes Cacamelo, age 23, after the homeowner called police to say he spotted the men on his home surveillance cameras attempting to enter his home, said Chief Daniel Valeri, of the New Windsor Police.

A man from the region was charged with burglary and grand larceny after allegedly being caught on video surveillance stealing $2,000 from a business.
Sullivan County resident Paul A. Ellis, age 37, of Monticello, was arrested on Wednesday, Nov. 29, said Lt. Mark Johnstone of the Monticello Police.
Johnstone said Ellis was arrested as the result of an investigation into the burglary of the Synergy of Monticello Inc., located at 2 High St., in the Village of Monticello.

Stranger Breaks Into Area Home, Attacks Woman After Being Booted From Amtrak Train, Cops Say
A 31-year-old man is accused of breaking into a complete stranger’s home in the region and physically attacking her, minutes after getting booted off an Amtrak train.
The Columbia County incident unfolded at around 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, in the city of Hudson, at the Hudson Terrace Apartments located on South Front Street.
According to Hudson Police, the victim was inside her apartment with her young children and a friend when they heard a knock at the door.

Burglar Who Targeted Capital Region Businesses Nabbed Over Year Later, Police Say
A suspected burglar is facing charges more than a year after allegedly targeting multiple businesses in the region.
Columbia County resident James Smith, age 52, of Hudson, was arrested Wednesday, Sept. 20, in connection with a burglary at a Brunswick business in Rensselaer County in April 2022.
According to New York State Police, Smith broke into a business on Hoosick Road at around 4:40 a.m. on April 3, 2022. The business was closed and unoccupied at the time.

Restaurant Burglary: 3 From Region Nabbed By Surveillance Video, Police Say
Three men from the region have been charged with the burglary of a popular deli and grill following an investigation.
The three, all Sullivan County residents, from Monticello, were arrested on Sunday, June 18 by the Monticello Police for the burglary at the NY Deli and Grill at 17 Liberty St. in Monticello.
The burglary took place on Saturday, June 10, said Lt. Mark Johnstone, of the Monticello Police.
An investigation revealed that at around 11:35 p.m., Leonard Jacobs, age 41, used a piece of asphalt to break the front door window of the restaurant, Johnstone said.
