Jesman believes that for him, Jay is the perfect fit.

"I was born and raised here, played soccer and basketball," Jesman told Daily Voice. "The community, the teachers. Everyone around here is just excellent, and that's why I enjoy coming to work every day."

Jesman said one of the challenges high school athletes face today is specialization.

"We do have a number of kids who just want to stick with that one sport," he said. "I believe that a three-sport athlete is one of the best athletes. One-sport athletes see more injuries because they're using the same muscles over and over."

What does Jesman say to those who want to specialize in just one sport?

"I just think they should re-think it," he said. "Try to play more than one sport. If you talk to any college athletic director, or a college coach, they love those multi-sport athletes."

Jesman was a physical education teacher in Poughkeepsie prior to coming to John Jay. He went to SUNY Oneonta, before getting his Masters at SUNY Cortland and Suny Stonybrook (administration).
