Bimbo Peter Oyewole, 54, of Elizabeth, admitted using fraudulent security clearance ID to work as a supervisor for FJC Securities, a private firm that provides security services at Newark Liberty International Airport, the George Washington Bridge and other facilities operated by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
Oyewole entered the U.S. in January 1989 on a temporary work visa, state authorities said.
He later began using the birth certificate and Social Security card of Jerry E. Thomas several weeks before Thomas was shot dead outside a Queens YMCA on July 20, 1992.
With the documents, Oyewole obtained a New Jersey driver’s license and high school equivalency diploma.
He then landed airport security positions under several private contractors, obtaining what is called a Secure Identification Display Area Card, authorities said.
Oyewole lost his job after being arrested last May 14. He’s been held in the Essex County Jail since, with detainers from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
New Jersey Deputy Attorneys General Vincent J. Militello and Veronica Allende prosecuted the case for the Division of Criminal Justice Corruption Bureau.
The investigation was headed by the DCJ, New Jersey’s Office of Inspector General and Port Authority Police.
Attorney General Jeffrey S. Chiesa cited the assistance of the New Jersey State Police, ICE, and the NYPD.
He mentioned several investigators, including Frank Vallone and John Tucci of the Office of Investigations of the Port Authority Office of Inspector General, as well as Detective Sgt. John Granato and Detective John Gorman of the NJSP Security Officer Registration Act Unit.
