EAST DUTCHESS, N.Y. -- Emily Darrow, winner of the 2015 #HVThankful challenge, loves her job at the United Way of the Dutchess and Orange Regions and looked forward to the chance to give back to the organization.
On Feb. 9, Darrow watched as that same organization, which she selected as her nonprofit of choice, received a check for $2,000 from Ashworth Creative, creator of #HVThankful. Because of the generosity of #HVThankful’s 2015 sponsors, the United Way and Emily Darrow will keep locating needy individuals and providing critical interventions and resources.
Brianne Radtke, marketing strategist at Ashworth Creative explained, “#HVThankful encourages Hudson Valley residents to share moments of gratitude through Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to be entered into the contest.”
“The #HVThankful Challenge reimagines the grant-making process by empowering individuals to participate in fundraising through an accessible medium,” said Eve Ashworth, owner of Ashworth Creative and creator of #HVThankful.
The United Way of the Dutchess and Orange Regions helped more than 101,000 individuals in Dutchess and Orange counties last year by determining the areas and individuals with the highest need. They then allocate vital resources, including over $2 million in grant funding and in-kind gift distribution system, to these local organizations and individuals.
Kimberly Kochem, the vice president of Community Impact for the United Way explained, “Last year, one person was helped every five minutes by the United Way. This equates to one in seven of your neediest neighbors.”
In 2016 #HVThankful will expand to a year-long celebration of gratitude. To enable this level of growth, Ashworth Creative encourages residents to use the #HVThankful hashtag all year, while relying on additional Hudson Valley local businesses to support the challenge through sponsorships.
