Shortly after the ball dropped and 2015 became 2016, Adanma delivered Dutchess County's first newborn baby of the new calendar year.

Kaima Amaha-Okorafor was born naturally at 4:58 a.m. Friday at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, weighing exactly 8 pounds, well before her due date of Jan. 9.

“This is the best New Year’s gift you can get,” her father said. “She is so beautiful. … Every person can call her Kaima, but she’ll always be daddy’s Pearl.”
