Retired Eastchester Police Sergeant Andrew Fischer Dies A police department in Westchester has announced the death of one of its former members who spent his life serving his community and country.  Dutchess County resident Andrew Fischer, Sr., a retired Eastchester Police sergeant, died on Tuesday, April 9 at the age of 84, according to his obituary. Fischer, an Air Force veteran who served during the Vietnam War era, joined the department in 1964 and served until his retirement in 1987 after 23 years, according to Eastchester Police. Fairfield County resident Kurt Hothorn Jr., of Greenwich, died at Greenwich Hospital on Friday, Sept. 23, according to his obituary. War Dog Memorial Planned For Lasdon Park In Northern Westchester Lasdon Park, located on Route 35 in Katonah, will soon be the home to a new war dog memorial. Westchester County Executive George Latimer made the announcement on Wednesday, March 13, also known as National K-9 Veterans Day. In total, more than $30,000 has been raised by Friends of Lasdon Park & Arboretum to erect a memorial statue that will be dedicated to military hero dogs. The sculpture is a life-size depiction of Chips, a World War II War Dog. Stray Elephant Strolls Off Sanctuary, Onto Road In Hudson Valley An elephant that survived the Vietnam War took a Veterans' Day stroll off an animal sanctuary in the Hudson Valley and onto a local road before New York State Police quickly responded and helped escort her back home. The incident occurred Sunday night in Orange County. Troopers from the Middletown barracks responded to a roadway alongside a field near the Sanctuary for Animals in Westtown, where they found the wandering tusker.
