New Superintendent Named At School District In Westchester After a six-week nationwide search process, a school district in Westchester has named a new superintendent who will be arriving from a district in a neighboring state.  The Mamaroneck Union Free School District has named Charles B. Sampson as its next superintendent, the district's school board announced on Tuesday, June 13.  When he begins his position on Wednesday, Nov. 1, Sampson will replace Robert Shaps, who will be retiring in December 2023, district officials said. In Ulster County, the Marlboro Board of Education announced that it has appointed Michael Rydell as the district’s new superintendent of schools. He will be replacing Michael Brooks, who is retiring this summer. Covid-19: Positive Case Reported At Tuckahoe School District There has been a new positive COVID-19 case in a Westchester school district. Someone at the William E. Cottle Elementary School in Tuckahoe has tested positive for the virus, Superintendent Amy Goodman wrote in a note to parents. It was not disclosed whether it was a student or staff member who tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday, Sept. 11. Goodman said the person who tested positive for the virus is in a state-mandated quarantine and alerted students and staff members who were exposed through contact tracing.

Support Pours In For Family Of Hudson Valley Girl Killed In Storm Support and words of comfort are pouring in for the family of the 11-year-old Newburgh girl killed during Tuesday's storm when a tree fell on the SUV in which she was a passenger.  The girl’s mother had just parked at their Newburgh home when violent wind gusts toppled a tree and trapped the girl inside, police said. Last year, John Gallagher Jr. pleaded guilty to bribery for his role in a four-year corruption scheme while he was an independent contractor working with the New Rochelle School District. He faces up to four years in prison and must pay thousands in fines.
