Andrew Cuomo’s budget proposal includes a potential tax hike for the state’s wealthiest residents. In his budget proposal this week, Cuomo proposed raising taxes on the rich to a combined level of 14.7 percent, which would be the highest state and local tax rate in the nation as New York looks to dig out of the financial hole created during the pandemic. NY Minimum Wage Increase Takes Effect As the new year starts, some Hudson Valley workers will see a pay bump in the form of a minimum wage increase and middle-class tax cut. The rise in minimum wage will vary throughout the state. Employees in New York City will see a rise up to $15 an hour, while on Long Island and Westchester, minimum wage will increase a dollar, from $10 to $11 an hour. In the rest of the Hudson Valley, including Rockland, Orange, Putnam and Dutchess counties, employees will see a rise in minimum wage from $9.70 an hour to $10.40 an hour.
