ID Released For Man Found Floating In Water At Jones Beach
Police released the identity of a 58-year-old man whose body was found floating in the water at Jones Beach over the weekend. Nassau County resident Marino Prodan, of Seaford, was identified as the man whose body was located at the west end of the beach in Wantagh at about 6:20 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11, the Nassau County Police Department announced on Tuesday, Sept. 13. When officers arrived and recovered Prodan's body from the water, he was unconscious and was not breathing, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene, NCPD said. An investigation is underway after the body of a 58-year-old man was found floating in the water at Jones Beach. The Nassau County Police Marine Bureau responded to a report of a body in the water at the west end of the beach in Wantagh at about 6:20 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11, the Nassau County Police Department said. A man swimming at a popular beach in the region is believed to have been bitten by a shark, according to authorities. The incident happened on Long Island at around 1 p.m. Thursday, June 30 in Wantagh. Nassau County Police say a 37-year-old man was swimming in the ocean at Jones Beach when he sustained a laceration to his right foot. Town Closes Beaches To Bathing After Shark Sighting
A Long Island town has closed all of its beaches to bathing after a shark was spotted. The Town of Hempstead announced on Wednesday, July 28, that it is prohibiting all swimming at its beaches after a shark was spotted off Atlantic Beach. A 35-year-old man from Westchester died after being pulled from the waters off Jones Beach on Long Island earlier this week. New Rochelle resident Cecil G. Letts was found submerged in the water off the Wantagh beach at approximately 3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14.
