Car Catches On Fire On Parkway In Westchester An early morning vehicle blaze sent up plenty of smoke on a busy parkway in Northern Westchester.  The fire began on Tuesday, Nov. 12 around 6 a.m. on the southbound Taconic State Parkway in Briarcliff Manor, where a vehicle went up in flames, according to the Hawthorne Fire Department, which helped fight the blaze.  Arriving firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire in the parkway's right shoulder.  No injuries were reported.

Hochul Provides Update On Wildfires In Hudson Valley As the wildfires continue to burn across the Hudson Valley, Gov. Kathy Hochul updated what's being done to mitigate and contain them. On Tuesday, Nov. 12, Hochul said a multi-agency response had been deployed to fires in Orange and Ulster counties in close coordination with local fire departments and first responders.  According to Hochul, an aerial investigation shows the Orange County fire named the Jennings Creek/Sterling State Park wildfire in New York and New Jersey now encompasses 5,000 acres, half of which is in New York, and is 10 percent contained in both states. School Bus Goes Up In Flames In Westchester A busy road in the region was temporarily closed as crews battled a school bus fire.  The blaze happened on Thursday afternoon, Nov. 7 in Northern Westchester County when the bus caught on fire in Valhalla on Grasslands Road (Route 100), according to the Valhalla Fire Department. Luckily, no students were aboard the bus at the time and no injuries were reported. The blaze was quickly put out and the bus was removed from the road, the department said, adding that the roadway was then reopened to traffic.

Car Engulfed In Flames On Taconic Parkway In Westchester A vehicle fire prompted an early morning response on the Taconic State Parkway. The blaze happened on Saturday, Oct. 19 around 8:30 a.m. in Northern Westchester, when an SUV caught on fire on the southbound side in Hawthorne. Arriving fire crews soon found the vehicle consumed by flames and quickly hosed it down, putting the blaze out completely.  The response took around an hour and sent plumes of smoke up into the air on the parkway, as seen in images of the fire released on the Hawthorne Fire Department's social media page.  No injuries were reported.

Car Rolls Down Hill Into Building, Ditch In Westchester A building in Northern Westchester was damaged after a car rolled down a hill and crashed into it before ending up in a ditch.  The crash happened on Friday, Oct. 4 in Mount Kisco, when an unattended vehicle rolled through a grass field, through a garden, and into the corner of a garage on Brookside Avenue, according to Independent Fire Co. #13 of the Mount Kisco Fire Department. 4 Rescued After Sailboat Overturns On Long Island Sound Emergency responders from two counties teamed up to rescue several people after a sailboat overturned on the Long Island Sound. The incident happened around 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22 Marine 7 of the Nassau County Police Department Marine Bureau Unit responded for reports of an overturned sailboat.  With the assistance of the Westchester Police Department, all four occupants were removed from the water and the sail boat was towed to shore by Town of North Hempstead Bay Constable.  The FDNY Marine Bureau was also at scene.  There were no injuries reported.

Truck Backs Into House In Westchester A house had to be stabilized after a truck slammed into it in Westchester.  The crash happened on Monday, Sept. 16 around 12:30 p.m., when a truck backed into a house in Ardsley, according to the Hartsdale Fire Department.  Soon after the collision, crews from the Hartsdale, Greenville, and Fairview Fire Departments responded to the residence to shore the building before removing the truck.  Once several struts were placed in the damaged home, the truck was removed. Man Drowns In Hudson Valley Lake During Outing With Family A man on an outing with his family at Harriman State Park drowned after jumping into the lake and swimming about 100 feet away. The incident occurred in Rockland County around 6:30 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 18, at Lake Sebago in Stony Point.
