Electrical Fire At High-Rise Westchester Apartment Forces Hundreds To Evacuate Hundreds of Westchester residents were forced to evacuate a 19-story high rise apartment building in Yonkers when a fire broke out, officials said. A fire broke out at a Central Park Avenue apartment complex shortly after 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16, Deputy Fire Chief Daniel Flynn said. The fire forced approximately 250 units to be cleared after flames broke out in the building. Westchester Elementary School Evacuated For Gas Smell A Westchester elementary school had to be temporarily evacuated when the smell of gas was reported in the area. Colonial Elementary School in Pelham was evacuated as a precaution at approximately noon on Friday, Sept. 27, when there was reports of the smell of gas near the building. Members from the Pelham Fire Department, Pelham Police Department and Con Edison all responded to the scene to investigate the gas odor.
