Eastchester Little League Expands Wood-Only Bat Rule

EASTCHESTER, N. Y. -- Eastchester Little League is getting a jump on a national trend in favor of wood baseball bats by adopting the wood-only rule for some of its younger players this year, according to lohud.com.

Eastchester Little League is expanding its wood-only bat rule this year to include more younger players, as part of a nationwide move away from aluminum or composite bats.

It is an expansion of the requirement for 11- and 12-year-olds last year by now including the 140 kids playing 12-and-under and 10-and-under. The idea is to increase safety, and get ready for a national mandate that's coming, lohud.com said.

The youngsters in Eastchester's program will be some of the first to start moving torward wood-only bats. But USA Baseball, the governing organization for youth baseball, plans to require all youth baseball leagues to drop aluminum or composite bats by 2018, lohud.com reported.
