Correction Makes Bronxville Diver County Champion

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – The Westchester County Swimming Association amended the results of the boys 14-17 division of the county diving championships and crowned a new champion.

Initially, Aaron Wald of Willowbrook Swim and Tennis Club finished in first place with 224.85 points while John Paul Flangos of Bronxville Field Club placed second with 220.35 points.

Paul A. McClintock, president of the association, said via email late Thursday night officials checked the scores and Flangos actually finished in first with 226.60 points while Wald placed second with 226.00 points.

McClintock said officials routinely check the scores to verify the electronics.

“We have two computer systems talking to each other, as well as the individual judges’ touch pads,” McClintock said via email. “We noted a mid-round one discrepancy that caused us to shut down and reboot. Scores were reviewed and errors were verified and corrected.”

The change means Flangos is the official champion of his division at the 87th Annual Westchester County Swimming Association “Counties” Diving Championships.

“Calls (were) made to the divers, parents and coaches explaining it and apologizing for same,” McClintock said via email. “All (were) notified, but (John Paul) should receive his belated accolades for winning the title.”

The “Counties” continue Monday with the swimming portion of the competition at Rye Playland.

Here are the official, amended scores for the boys’ 14-17 division:
