The goal of the club is to explore and address diversity across various subjects and foster a welcoming inclusive school community. The club’s first effort will be a Diversity Day in the upper schools on March 11, to spark dialogue and interest amongst students. Diversity Day, according to club advisor Anne Richter, is designed to collectively and purposefully recognize, understand and celebrate diversity within the scope of content specific common core curriculum instructional practices and methodologies.
In addition to instruction tailored to the topic, the day will feature a “Mix It Up at Lunch,” including film and musical video montages, announcements throughout the day, as well as an online reflections journal and map where students can pin all of the places they may have visited. This program comes on the heels of the successful Building Bridges program, sponsored by SEPTA, which introduced students in grades K-5 to different disabilities.
