The New Rochelle High School sent out an alert on Thursday afternoon to parents advising that there was an evacuation of the building at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24, when an alarm went off.
The district said the evacuation was caused during routine maintenance to the building’s heating system, which accidentally created steam due to the cold weather, triggering an alarm. Students and staff were evacuated for approximately 20 minutes.
According to the district, Thursday was a testing day, so students who were in the building for exams were allotted an additional 25 minutes to complete their tests. Students and staff returned to the building without further incident.
