EASTCHESTER, N.Y. Eastchester voters gave the 2012-2013 school budget their stamp of approval Tuesday, passing the $73,284,473 spending plan with a 1,500-976 vote, according to unofficial results.
A pair of Eastchester voters expressed optimism late Tuesday afternoon that the budget would be accepted by voters.
"I think it will pass," Dina Gorman said. "I think it's reasonable."
Renee Levine said she was jet-lagged, having come straight from the airport to Eastchester Middle School to cast her ballot.
"I hope it will pass," she said. Levine said she has three children between ages 5 and 8 in the school system.
The budget represents an increase of $1,527,170 over the 2011-2012 budget.
The budget, with its 1.98 percent increase in the tax levy, required a simple majority of votes to pass. Had the school board delivered a budget that exceeded its tax levy cap, it would have required a 60 percent approval vote.
Three incumbent members of the Eastchester Board of Education were on the ballot, running unopposed for re-election. Michelle Kissel was the top vote-getter with 1,612. John Curcio received 1,578 votes and David Carforo polled 1,563, according to district officials.
