The board voted unanimously to put forth the referendum for "the installation of a synthetic turf field to replace the existing one and for masonry re-pointing work in the Middle School and High School," according to a news release from the school district. The total bond amount is $1,890,724, according to the release, and the District estimates a taxpayer cost of approximately $30 a year (for 15 years) for a home with the average assessment of 10,000. The date for the bond vote is Dec. 12.
Additional items in the bond include resurfacing of the track, perimeter fencing and security cameras on the field, according to the release.
"Concerns about exposed seams and worn surfaces prompted the District to close the field, though the track is open at this time," representatives said in the release. "Although the field looks good from a distance, it is no longer usable and has exceeded its life expectancy ... The field is used daily by both the Middle School and the High School for Physical Education classes and recess; after school by Modified, JV and Varsity football teams; for practices and games for boys and girls Modified, JV and Varsity lacrosse, track and field, and soccer teams. It is also used on the weekends by town leagues such as Blue Devils football and lacrosse, EYSA soccer and EYSA travel soccer. In the summer months, when school is not in session, it is used by the Town of Eastchester summer camp program."
If voters approve the bond referendum, the field plans would be developed and filed with the State Education Department with field completion expected by the fall of 2014, according to the release.
The district will hold two informational forums for the community with the dates to be determined, according to the release.
