New Rochelle native Roderick Covlin, 42, was brought into custody by the New York City Police Department on Sunday in Scarsdale and subsequently arraigned on second-degree murder charges Monday morning in Manhattan.
In 2009, Shele Covlin’s children found her dead in the bathtub of the family’s Manhattan apartment on New Year’s Eve. Her death was initially ruled as accidental, although police reportedly looked into potential involvement from her husband.
According to reports, the Covlin’s marriage was in disarray, and Shele was set to meet an attorney the day following her death to write her husband out of her will.
Shele Covlin’s body was exhumed at her family’s request a year after her death, when medical investigators determined that she had been strangled. A wrongful death suit was filed in 2011, while Roderick spent his time living with family in New Rochelle.
Roderick Covlin’s attorney, Robert Gottlieb has repeatedly declined to comment on his client’s involvement, stating that there is “no basis to consider charging Covlin with the tragic death of his wife.”
