The task force was made up of members from the police community, researchers, academics, civic leaders and others. They were charged with identifying best practices and offering recommendations on how policing practices can promote effective crime reduction while building public trust.
Several meetings were held around the nation and a series of recommendations and best practices for police agencies were established, along with direction on how the recommendation can be put into action.
The task force report was finalized in May 2015. Click here to read the report and its implementation guide. The latter contains suggestions not only for law enforcement, but also local government and the community.
At the recent event, law enforcement executives from around the country were invited to take part in a briefing and training on strategies to advance the recommendations from the report.
"It was a great experience to meet and talk with police executives from all around the country and share ideas," Bonci said.
"I was also encouraged to find that our department is already independently employing several strategies identified by the task force," Bonci said.
"Last year, our department went through the New York State Accreditation process and is a testament to the work that each and every member of the department performs on a daily basis."
