Two Face Felony Shoplifting Charges in Eastchester

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – Two women are facing felony charges after they were accused of stealing from Lord & Taylor.

According to Lt. Robert Jensen of the Eastchester Police Department, store security guards stopped the women at about 7 p.m. Wednesday after they left the store at 750 White Plains Road without paying for merchandise valued at $1,439.19. Eastchester police were called and the women were arrested and charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, police said.

Arrested were Racquel McLean, 30, of Mount Vernon and Avril Y. Barrett, 28, of the Bronx. Both were remanded to Westchester County Jail in lieu of $2,500 bail.

Illegal sticker: Alphonso S. Gonzalez, 41, of White Plains was arrested at 5:50 p.m. Wednesday following a traffic stop for an illegal left turn on White Plains Road, police said. Jensen said the inspection sticker did not belong on the vehicle, and the driver was found to have an expired license. Gonzalez was charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument, a felony, as well as making an illegal left turn and driving with an expired license, both violations. He was released on $500 bail.

Unlicensed driver: A routine traffic stop at 2 p.m. Wednesday on New Rochelle Road revealed the driver's license had been suspended. Police arrested Jake D. Hornig, 20, of Lake Peekskill and charged him with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor, police said. He was released without bail.

No registration: Police stopped a car driven by Chad B. Cooper, 43, of New Rochelle after the cruiser's license plate reader indicated the car had a suspended registration, police said. Cooper was charged with driving without a valid registration, a misdemeanor. He was given a summons and was released at the scene.

Theft from business: A Garth Road business told police Monday, May 7, that someone had taken a bank bag containing $1,100 sometime between April 28 and April 30. The business delayed reporting the theft until owners had a chance to search for the money and question employees.

No license, insurance: A Mount Vernon woman was arrested at 6:50 p.m. May 5 after a police cruiser's license plate reader indicated the vehicle was uninsured. Sylvia Small, 58, was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle and driving an uninsured vehicle, both misdemeanors, police said. She was issued a summons and released.

Shoplifting: A homeless man was arrested at 7:49 p.m. May 3 and charged with stealing items from Lord & Taylor, 750 White Plains Road. Police said the man is accused of taking four pair of Ralph Lauren boxer shorts and four pair of socks, then running through a nearby neighborhood and taking a bicycle to escape. He was caught by police, Jensen said, and charged with petit larceny, a misdemeanor. He was sent to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of $500 bail.
