Eastchester Conservative Party Primary Set

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – Westchester County Legislator Sheila Marcotte, (R-Tuckahoe) will face challenger Marilena Sophia in a primary race for the Conservative line in District 10, which covers Eastchester, Tuckahoe and New Rochelle.

Voting for the primary will take place Tuesday and polls are open between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m.

Eastchester Conservative Committee Chair Bob Fois is encouraging all registered Conservative Party members to vote.

But Fois said he is disappointed that a primary is needed for this election as Sophia has failed to contact the Conservative Committee and has never made herself available for an interview.

"Anyone who knows me will tell you I am a big advocate for primary voting when issues are relevant and the challenge is worthy," Fois said. "But this primary is not motivated by anything other than obstruction and is costing taxpayers $38,000."

According to Fois, Sophia was not the person who collected signatures in order to have her name on the ballot.

"As far as we know, she has not made any appearances and has not campaigned."

Marcotte began her political career just after Sept. 11, 2001, when she was appointed to take over for then Tuckahoe Village Board Trustee Mike McHugh who lost his life in the terrorist attacks. She went on to serve on the Eastchester Town Board and was elected to her first term as a County Legislator in June of 2010 in a special election.

Marcotte said she is most proud of being a part of the county board that decreased county taxes, a trend she hopes to continue if re-elected.

"Last year Westchester County delivered a tax decrease to the residents for the first time in 30 years and I am proud to say that I was part of that historic change," Marcotte said. "Westchester County does not have a revenue problem, it has a spending problem and basic kitchen table economics dictates that you cannot spend what you do not have."

Marcotte, who has the endorsement of the Republican and Independence parties, will face off in the general election against Democrat John Fitzgerald, the former mayor of Tuckahoe, for the seat representing the 10th Legislative district.
