Former Eastchester Fire Chief Grogan Dies at 77

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. - Lifelong Eastchester resident, Joseph Grogan died suddenly on Nov. 30 at the age of 77.

A firefighter for nearly three decades, he was the former fire chief of the Eastchester Fire Department. Grogan's son, Michael, is the current fire chief.

Grogan was born Sep. 27, 1934 and he worked as a firefighter with the Eastchester Fire Department for 29 years. Grogan was also a volunteer at the Waverly Engine Co. for many years, as well as a member of the Westchester Firefighters Emerald Society.

Also a former plumber, Grogan continued a family plumbing business for over 50 years. 

He is survived by his wife Johanne Vaccaro, his sons Michael (Linda) Grogan, Kevin Grogan, Daniel (Loretta) Grogan and Timothy Grogan, his daughter Patricia Grogan, his brother Daniel (Jan) Grogan, a sister-in-law and six grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother Robert Grogan.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday and from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday at Westchester Funeral Home in Eastchester. The funeral mass will take place at 10 a.m. on Monday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Scarsdale, followed by interment at Holy Mount Cemetery in Eastchester.
