The club announced the establishment of the 2010 graduates memorial scholarship in June, and has since seen an overwhelming response from generous members of the community who have come out in droves to support the scholarship of the former Eastchester High School football and basketball player.
DePippo, 23, died in the wee hours of Sunday, June 7 while attempting to climb onto a railing near the New York-Presbyterian Hospital, reportedly to get a better view of the rising sun. While climbing, he fell several feet to his death on a concrete jogging path at approximately 6 a.m.
DePippo, who worked as a lifeguard at Lake Isle before becoming a full-time student at the University of Massachusetts and Widener, played wideout and defensive back for the Eastchester football team during his time at the high school.
Donations for the Nicholas DePippo Athletic Scholarship can be sent to the Eastchester School District offices at 2 Stewart Place. Checks can be made payable to the Eastchester Union Free School District, with the note DePippo Athletic Scholarship in the memo section of the check. All donations are tax deductible.
