Local, County Government Team To Rehab Scout Field In Eastchester

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. - When the fall sports season rolls around in a few months, athletes in Eastchester, Yonkers and Mount Vernon may have a revitalized Scout Field to call home.

On Monday, County Legislators Gordon Burrows and Sheila Marcotte announced a near $2 million bond act for improvements at Scout Field, with Eastchester continuing to operate and maintain the location on a day-to-day basis.

The intermunicipal agreement between the town and county will see each side making “significant” improvements to the park. According to the legislators, the work will include earthwork and grading, placement of topsoil, installation of sub-surface drainage, installation of irrigation system and other incidental work required for the creation of a turf soccer field, courtesy of the county

Eastchester will be responsible for creating a new parking area, resurfacing the existing entrance road, and erecting a fence with pedestrian and vehicle gates to enclose the soccer field. The town will also fund incidental costs at the field such as bleachers and equipment.

“I am very happy to see this rehab of Scout Field, and the construction of a new soccer field finally come to fruition,” Marcotte said in a statement. “By sharing the expense of this project between the county and town, we are able to protect local taxpayers while delivering a very comprehensive project that will get the Scout Field facility in top shape, while creating a new athletic field that is available to all residents.”

Burrows said that this bond will benefit the community both in the present and moving forward.

“This agreement is an excellent example of what we can accomplish when municipal and county government collaborate,” he said. “These improvements will make Scout Field and much better asset for town and county residents for decades to come.”
