From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 7, the LWMOM will be selling items that can accommodate twins, triplets or more. There will be new and gently used baby clothes, gear, furniture and toys.
According to LWMOM co-President Ana Yuricek this is one of the most important events for the organization.
“The Tag Sale is our only fundraiser and helps LWMOM in offsetting the costs of running the group,” she said. “These include the costs of guest speakers, mailing out new members packets and subsidizing the winter and summer social events.”
According to the LWMOM, multiple births have become more common than ever. Women are waiting longer to become mothers and twins occur more frequently in mothers older than 35. The increased popularity of In Vitro Fertilization has also led to an increase in the trend.
Yuricek said that the organization is open to both prospective mothers of multiples, as well as current mothers. Members are encouraged to get involved when they are pregnant so they can get better prepared.
“We provide an array of resources including monthly meetings, a popular newsletter, a vibrant online community and events for families,” she said. “It’s a great way to get advice, product recommendations, nanny leads and to connect with other local moms for play dates.”
LWMOM was created in 1997 to help deal with the challenges mothers face raising multiples. There are more than 200 members spread throughout Westchester that use the group as a lifeline and resource to aid them in raising children.
“No matter what we are experiencing, we have a member who has already lived through it and can help guide us,” Yuricek said. “During these tumultuous times as a mother of twins, or more, members truly lean on each other for support and form lifelong friendships.”
