EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – Eastchester children will have the chance to go under the sea to get their teeth cleaned as Boiano Dental opened its kid-friendly satellite office, Smile Under the Sea Pediatrics Dentistry.

Situated above its general office on Main Street, Smile Under the Sea features colorful, sprawling murals that depict underwater sea creatures and beach scenes, as well as several televisions and games for kids.

Dr. John Boiano, who has had a practice for adults in town for several years, will oversee an experienced team of four who will be led by pediatric dentist Dr. Mila Belgrade, who likened the décor of the new office to that of a child’s fantasy.

“The office is magical,” she said. “I feel like a mermaid when I am there.”

Although Smile Under the Sea looks and feels like a child’s playhouse, it features all of the latest dentistry technology. The satellite office offers lasers, treatments under sedation and other practices to keep both parents and patients calm during a sometimes-stressful time.

Belgrade, said that parents should begin bringing children to the dentist regularly for cleanings after their first birthday. Smile Under the Sea will also handle any dental emergencies Eastchester children may face.

“Childhood is the best time to instill good habits in children,” she noted. “I am the right person for that, because I have the patience and I love working with children to develop a relationship and take away their fears.”

As a child, Belgrade had a negative experience with a dentist, which has been influential throughout her career as a pediatric dentist.

“I had a very bad experience when I was living in Russia as a child, and I decided no child or person will go through that experience again. That’s why I became a dentist,” she said. “The ability to teach patients the right habits and principles. It’s rewarding to know you made a difference in someone’s life.”
