Thunderstorm Brings Relief in Croton

Manoylobich was rapidly dismantling his wind surfing gear at the kayak launch in Senasqua Park while Bob Bruce finally sat down to drink a beer after a long day repairing air conditioning units in attics. Both finished their days by the Hudson River after one of the hottest days on record, which ended with a hail-dumping thunderstorm.

“I was expecting a big blow, but I’m going to get a big shock,” said Manoylobich, as he rapidly glanced back at the fast approaching storm to determine how much time he had before the storm burst open.

A cold front chased down the especially hot Westchester weather yesterday and created a convection current, which, according to Manoylobich, could produce excellent wind.

“I was going to ride the twister,” he said, as small water spouts formed behind him.

Bruce, however, was grateful just to be out of the attic and on the deck of the Croton Yacht Club.

“I didn’t do anything I planned to do today because of emergencies,” he said.

Many residents turned on their air for the first time today, Bruce said, only to discover it was not operational.

“It’s always bad in June because everything is turning on for the first time,” he said.

July and August usually prove to be slower months for R and R Heating and Cooling, the company in which Bruce is a partner, because repairs have already been made.

Thursday’s storm moved through the area quickly and after drenching the overheated landscape it moved south.
