Severe Weather Warning Doesn't Hinder Croton

Croton businesses are in full swing despite the National Weather Services tornado warning. The Croton Farmers Market opened for the first time this season with most shoppers blissfully unaware of the weather warning. The village’s partly cloudy skies and barely breezy afternoon hardly looked threatening.

Croton jeweler Jen Rutheny, of Rutheny’s Jewelry on Brook Street, kept her doors open despite the fact that a friend had informed her of the weather conditions. “I think it’s more likely to hail than have a tornado,” said Rutheny, a 15-year resident of Croton. "[But] we have had tornadoes come through here in the past.”

Croton Harmon High School did not report any afterschool activities cancelled, nor did Hendrick Hudson High School.
