CORTLANDT, N.Y. – Snow plows could be heard in the distance Friday as Nemo began dropping snow on Cortlandt.

The National Weather Service predicted between 12 and 15 inches of snow for the tri-state area as estimates were revised Friday at 4 a.m. The worst of the storm is expected to hit Friday evening into Saturday morning.

"Visibilities near zero in white-out conditions" are expected during that time, the Weather Service said.

Croton's largest winter event, EagleFest, was already rescheduled due to the snowstorm. Originally set to take place Saturday, Feb. 9., the festival was postponed to Sunday, Feb. 10. All activities will remain the same, and tickets for Saturday will be honored Sunday.

Croton-Harmon, Hendrick Hudson and Lakeland Central School Districts all dismissed early, and most after-school activities were canceled.

New York State Police advised travelers, especially large commercial vehicles, to stay off the roads and warned that abandoned vehicles are subject to impoundment.
