Hours-Long Standoff Ends In Suicide In Area A tense hours-long standoff ended when an area resident with a rifle killed himself. Putnam County Sheriff Robert Langley, Jr. said the incident unfolded around 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 23,  when the town of Kent Ambulance along with the EmStar medics were dispatched to Pudding Street in the Town of Putnam Valley for a man with chest pain. The incident began Friday afternoon around 3:40 p.m. in the Vernon Drive area when a family member called police reporting the situation.
