Three-Alarm House Fire Breaks Out In Area A three-alarm fire broke out overnight, leaving a home heavily damaged in the area. The blaze began in Putnam County shortly before midnight on Monday, Dec. 23 at an East Court home in Mahopac Falls, fire officials said. The residence was fully engulfed when fire crews arrived at the house. Flames tore through the roof and rear of the home, leaving it temporarily uninhabitable.  Crews from Mahopac, Putnam Valley, Somers, Lake Mohegan and the Putnam County Bureau of Emergency Services were able to knock the flames down in approximately 45 minutes, officials said. Oil Truck Crashes Down Embankment, Causing Fuel Leak In Area An oil tanker crashed down an embankment, causing a fuel leak that firefighters are still busy soaking up. The crash took place around 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 1, in Putnam Valley on Hollowbrook Road, officials said. The driver was not injured, but firefighters with the Putnam Valley Department are using absorbent pads to stop the oil from leaking into the nearby Hollow Brook, the department said. Mahopac Falls Volunteer Fire Department and Montrose VA Fire Department and the Putnam County Bureau of Emergency Services Hazmat Team assisted with the call.
