Thom Leads Croton Boys to Victory in Class B

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – Ian Thom scored a game-high 24 points for the Croton boys’ basketball team in a 66-56 victory over visiting Pawling in the opening round of the section 1 Class B tournament.

“Pawling is a good team,” Croton coach Bill Thom said. “They did not have a senior who played.  Their only senior is injured. This win was truly a team effort.”

The Tigers (14-5), seeded sixth, advanced to next week’s quarterfinals round, while No. 11 Pawling was eliminated from the tournament.

Croton led 15-12 at the end of the first quarter but surged to a 34-22 lead at halftime. Pawling hung in and outscored Croton 34-32 in the second half to keep the game within reach.

Thom, a junior point guard, shot well from long range, nailing four 3-pointers and added three steals and four assists.

Wes Turner contributed 16 points, 10 on free throws, and added five rebounds for the Tigers and Aaron had four assists and five rebounds.

Justin Mayette scored a team-high 18 points for Pawling.
