Hen Hud's Barry Reverses Result Against Varian

Sean Barry had a week to think about his performance in the Kohl Wrestling Tournament 285-pound final, one that resulted in a loss.  The Hen Hud senior was shocked by Yorktown’s David Varian, who Barry had pinned earlier in the season. After watching the tape of the match and replaying it in his mind, Barry knew what adjustment he had to make if they met again.

Barry received another opportunity to wrestle Varian, and this time, came away with the win. Barry posted a 7-5 decision over Varian to win the 285-pound title at the Super 16 Championships.

Mark Grant (113) was a runner-up and Jack Wagner (106) placed fourth.

“Last week, I didn’t wrestle my best,” Barry said. “I underestimated Varian because I had pinned him earlier in the season and that came back to bite me, big time.

“This week, without a doubt, I knew I had to come right at him and make him try to beat me, rather than me beat myself the week before.”
