Hen Hud Fields Could Get a Protective Fence

MONTROSE, N.Y. – A protective fence was a last minute addition to the Hendrick Hudson School Board’s bond proposal, coming in at an estimated $169,500. The fence comes in response to recent vandalism in the school’s fields.

A vehicle drove on the district’s fields almost two weeks ago, causing about $14,000 in damage to the fields. The school’s insurance does not cover these repairs and the labor will be sourced “in house.”

“It’s all man power this time,” said Anthony Merlini, director of facilities for the district. The board cited a similar incident which took place about two years ago, when a car drove through the muddy fields, causing about the same amount of damage.

Superintendant Dr. Daniel McCann also pointed out that the damage to the fields caused the district to "oveprlay" the main field.

The district was able to recoup expenses from the incident two years ago because the field was so muddy, as board member Charles Thompson pointed out, that the vehicle became stuck in the mud. The vandal then tried to recruit several people to push the vehicle out of the mud, and was caught in the act. The vandal’s insurance paid for repairs to the field.

The addition of the fence to the bond proposal put the bond going to popular vote on Wednesday, December 14, at $25,940,908.
