Croton Tops Putnam Valley to End Losing Skid

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- Mike Hrycko pitched three-plus innings in relief and drove in a run Monday to help get the Croton High School baseball team get back on track after a five-game losing streak.

“We needed that one bad," first-year coach Eric Rosen said. “Ritz” (Mike Hrycko) has been solid for us all year at the plate and on the mound. [Assistant] Coach [Jay] Tomasulo and myself have been very pleased with our younger players. Whether it is "Ritz", Baeu Dorien, or Izaak Cohen we keep throwing them into the fire and they have all responded."

Rosen, who is working to rebuild the Croton baseball program, opened the season with two wins and has used several underclassmen over the first month of the season, including Cohen, Dorien and Hrycko. The Tigers improved their record to 4-7.

Dennis Traditi started the game on the mound for Croton and allowed two earned runs over three innings. Hrycko came on in the fourth inning with the game tied at 3-3 and did not allow a run.

The Tigers, who used their speed to steal five bases, scored the winning run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Anthony Gentile had a double and scored a run and Izaak Cohen also drove in a run for Croton.
