Croton Tops Panas in Coaches vs. Cancer Event

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Croton High School boys basketball team played for a good cause Friday, hosting a three-game evening of basketball for the benefit of Coaches vs. Cancer, while defeating Walter Panas 60-48.

The Tigers won for the sixth time in their last eight games to get to 11-3 for the season, led 24-18 after a closely-played first half. Panas dropped to 7-6 for the season.

Aaron Thompson led all Tigers scorers with 15 points, while Wes Turner added 12 and Ian Thom and Rob Simmons each scored 10 for the winners. Turner was named Player of the Game for his all-around play.

Simmons and Turner had 13 and 10 rebounds respectively, as the Tigers won the battle of the boards. Thom and Thompson put the ball in the right hands on offense, combining for nine assists from the Tigers backcourt. All 12 Croton players scored.

Vaughn Dweck led all scorers with 22 points for Panas.

The Tigers play at Ossining next Wednesday at 4:15 p.m.
