Croton Girls, Mulligan Look to Postseason Playoffs

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Croton girls’ basketball team has built a better defense and learned to play as a team under head coach Ben Martucci and assistant Eric Rosen, compiling an 11-7 record, the Tigers’ best in eight years.

Croton’s Grace Mulligan answered three questions about the No. 7 seed Tigers on the eve of Friday’s 5 p.m. home game against 10th seeded Westlake in the opening-round game of the Section 1 Class B tournament.

How has the team improved since the start of the season?

The team has improved a lot since the beginning of the season.  As we have played together, we have learned each other’s strengths and weaknesses. Our team defense has really improved and we have started to talk a lot more in the half court.  Also, we are pushing the ball much better and we are making good passes in transition that have been leading to easy baskets.

What are the team’s strengths?

I think that one of our greatest strengths is our chemistry. We are all really close on and off the court and we can accept each other’s advice without argument. We trust each other and we work really well together, which I believe has contributed to our success.

What are the keys to success in the postseason?

One big key to our success this postseason is if we are able to generate offense. If we successfully score points, cut back on offensive turnovers and get a good rhythm going, we should be able to go far this postseason.
