Croton Boys Tripped by Briarcliff

BRIARCLIFF, N.Y. – Brian Daniels scored a game-high 24 points and Tyriek Johnson added 20 as the Briarcliff boys basketball team defeated visiting Croton 77-56 Tuesday.

In a reversal of an earlier meeting won by Croton, the Bears used a strong defense and high-energy offense to top the Tigers.

“It was one of those nights that make high school basketball so great,” Croton coach Bill Thom said. “Briarcliff came out and beat us in every facet of the game. They out-defended us, outhustled us, out-executed us, and had more energy than us.  You can only tip your hat to them and move on.”

Wes Turner scored 18 points and Ian Thom scored 16 for the Tigers, who had their four-game winning streak snapped and fell to 13-4 overall.

The Bears (12-5), won for the fourth straight game, led by three points after one quarter before streaking to a 20-8 advantage in the second quarter to take a commanding 39-24 halftime lead.

Ryan Huegel contributed 15 points for Briarcliff.

Croton plays its final regular-season game before the postseason playoff Friday at home against Hendrick Hudson at 6:15 p.m.
