Roof Repairs Begin At Hendrick Hudson Schools

MONTROSE, N.Y. – Roof repairs worth $500,000 that were approved by voters in a bond presented by the Hendrick Hudson School District should be completed well before the first day of school, district officials said.

"Anytime we had a large rain event, we would have leaks inside the building and students could come in and we had buckets setup to have drips coming into the building, and you really can't have that. You have an unsafe condition, unsightly condition as well," said Anthony Merlini, director of operations and maintenance for the district.

Roof repair above a classroom wing in Buchanan-Verplanck Elementary began on July 16, and roof and skylight repair above the Hendrick Hudson High School gym is scheduled to begin July 23. Each project is scheduled to take about two weeks.

The roof of the high school gym was last repaired in 2003, according to Merlini. He said that the skylights were then modified, which led to them leaking.

A fresh coat of paint in the Hendrick Hudson High School gym will also greet students this year.

In May, voters also authorized the purchase of four vehicles for $217,000, including one wheelchair accessible van, two dual rear wheel vans and one Suburban SUV.
