Lakeland Commends Student Musician Achievements

YORKTOWN, N.Y. – Seven students from Lakeland and Walter Panas high schools were selected for the New York State School Music Association Area All-State Band/Orchestra this year to recognize their musical talents. These students were acknowledged as a part of "Lakeland Salutes" at Thursday's school board meeting.

The concert, which was held earlier this month, included approximately 215 students from Westchester County. To be invited to play signifies a student’s extreme proficiency in music, the board said.

The chosen Lakeland students were Mihir Paradkar, Rachel Tsao, Elias Chess and Casey Kearney. The chosen Walter Panas students were Virginia Croft and Emma Haviland-Blunk.

Paradkar, a sophomore who plays the viola, Kearney, a junior grader who plays the oboe, and Croft, a junior grader who plays the violin, were all in attendance at the board meeting to be recognized for their musical talents.

"It is a prestigious honor, and one we consistently have in this district year after year," said Jim Van Develde, director of communications. "Congratulations to you on behalf of the Lakeland School District."
