Hendrick Hudson High School seniors, Connor Anderson, Maximilian Borchardt, Jonathan Chung and Danielle Guida were named commended students in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship program, and senior Wendy Yu has been named a semifinalist.
"Their hard work and dedication to their schooling has resulted in them being recognized for academic excellence," said Principal James Mackin
The students are among 34,000 commended students throughout the country being recognized for their exceptional academic promise, said a news release.
Commended students placed among the top 5 percent of more than 1.6 million students who entered the 2017 competition by taking the 2015 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
Yu is one of about 16,000 semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship program.
She will compete for 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth about $33 million that will be offered next spring.
