Hen Hud Becomes "Haunted High School" on Thursday

MONTROSE, N.Y. – Cortlandt families can start a spooky Halloween weekend early, on Thursday, with Hendrick Hudson High School’s first ever “Pumpkin Pops” band concert, and “Haunted High School” trick or treating.

“It was something that I did when I was in high school and I just remember it being a really enjoyable experience,” said Hendrick Hudson High School band director, Benjamin Acrish, “also, I wanted to do it to offer a concert that was accessible to the entire community, particularly with school age children.”

The concert takes place after Hendrick Hudson High School’s “Haunted High School,” which brings elementary school children to the high school to trick or treat.

“Everybody’s encouraged to wear costumes, they read some kind of Halloween themed story to the kids, it’s a nice bonding experience for the smaller kids to get to know the high school kids, and for the high school kids to get to give back to the community,” said Hendrick Hudson School District spokesman, Rick McCormack.

The trick or treating through the high school begins at 5 p.m., and runs until 7:30 p.m. The “Pumpkin Pops” Concert, featuring music from “Harry Potter,” “The Wizard of Oz,” and Danny Elfman begins immediately after the “Haunted High School.”

The band members will be dressed in costume, and the audience is encouraged to dress in costume as well. Prizes will be given out for the best costume. The concert is free, but donation to the Parents Committee on Music, and arm of the Hendrick Hudson High School PTA, will be accepted.
