CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- The Croton-Harmon School District’s board of education recently voted to adopt a resolution calling for the district to move forward with plans for a community vote on a district-wide facilities project on Tuesday, Oct.18.

The proposition, if approved, would include building improvements at Carrie E. Tompkins Elementary School, Pierre Van Cortlandt Middle School, Croton-Harmon High School, the District Office and Transportation Facility.

Plans for the vote were made at the board’s Aug. 4 meeting.

If approved, the cost of the projects may run as high as about $20.8 million, but are not expected to create any additional tax impact to the community.

The district has existing debt that is retiring; the new debt associated with the proposed bond referendum would essentially replace the old debt, according to officials.

The proposition includes facility improvements that were determined after lengthy discussions with administrators and the district’s architects, along with site visits and community input.

The work would include upgrades to heating, ventilation, air condition systems, exterior window and wall replacement at the elementary school, upgraded learning spaces and replacement of the high school’s fire alarm system.

It would also include additional security measures, renovated parking lots and pathways, upgraded septic systems and other infrastructural needs.

Residents are invited to view information about the scope of the proposition on the district website by clicking here.

The district will be sharing additional information related to the proposal through its Facebook page and Twitter account, along with the Twitter hashtag #CHUFSDBondVote.

The district will also send out information regarding the proposed plan to residents in the early fall.
